I recently got a Canon EOS 10D. I have a CF Card reader but it's sort of old and I can't find the drivers for it anywhere so my computer won't install it. I have the cord the hooks the camera up directly to the computer as well, but it won't install that either and I don't have a CD with the software on it.

The EOS 10D is compatible with Canon's entire range of EF lenses, digital printers and Speedlites, has USB connectivity, selectable color spaces, Exif 2.2 and DPOF 1.1 support, and includes Canon's capture software for Mac OS and Windows. With these advanced features in an easy-to-use interface, the EOS 10D makes digital EOS photography available to everyone. 6.30 megapixel CMOS SensorCanon's newly developed large, single-plate CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) sensor captures images with exceptional clarity and tonal range. Created through a new high-precision manufacturing method, this high-sensitivity sensor delivers ultra-fine accuracy with an effective 6.30 megapixel resolution (approximately 6.50 total megapixels).

It features advanced new peripheral circuitry that enhances images quality, an improved built-in amp that boosts the S/N ratio, and a superior sensing process that raises the maximum ISO speed while lowering image degradation during long exposures. The effective sensor size (22.7 x 15.1mm) has the same 3:2 ratio as film cameras, enabling an effective angle of view that is 1.6x the normal EF lens focal length.High Performance Imaging EngineInformation captured by the CMOS sensor is processed and assembled into images of exceptional quality by a new Image Engine, the latest version of Canon's exclusive all-in-one DIGIC digital imaging processor. Color reproduction is extremely natural and details are incredibly precise, especially with gradations in the highlight areas. In fact reproduction is so accurate that noise reduction is unnecessary, even with long exposures. Through use of a newly developed signal processing algorithm, Canon's highly efficient Imaging Engine even accelerates signal processing while consuming less energy. High-speed 7-point AFCanon's wide area 7-point AF system ensures sharp, accurate focusing with speedy subject tracking that is consistently maintained at 3 fps. This outstanding performance is made possible by advanced focusing technology including a high-speed microcomputer, a sophisticated new AF algorithm and AF sequence, and the same AF sensor employed in the EOS ELAN 7/EOS 30/33.Selection of the AF point can be automated by the EOS 10D or manually controlled through the easy-to-operate dials: the Main Dial is used for selection of the five horizontal AF points, while the Quick Control dial is used for selection of any of the three vertical AF points.

The superimposed display of the seven AF points in the viewfinder and the LCD panel employs an SI optical system for utmost clarity. If the selection goes beyond the extreme top, bottom, left, or right AF point, automatic AF point selection takes effect. 3 fps Continuous ShootingWith a continuous shooting speed of up to 3 frames per second and a maximum burst of 9 shots, the highly responsive EOS 10D is equipped to seize every photo opportunity. The rapid image processing of the high-performance imaging engine and a generous buffer memory help maintain this speedy performance regardless of selected recording quality, ISO speed and subject conditionsJPEG or Simultaneous RAW+JPEGWhenever you shoot the EOS 10D, you can choose to have it record in the JPEG format alone, or in the RAW and JPEG formats simultaneously. Both recording methods provide six selectable settings for JPEG image quality. The JPEG file format is ideal for purposes such as Internet image transfers that require reduced file sizes.

Canon's proprietary RAW (.CRW) format, on the other hand, employs lossless compression to ensure the highest possible quality, and is recorded at 12-bits per pixel to provide a wider range of tones and superior detail in bright highlights and deep shadows when compared with JPEG files. RAW files must be 'processed' before they can be opened in your computer's image-editing software. This conversion process typically takes only a few seconds using the dedicated driver software, which will convert the RAW file into a standard 8-bit per channel TIFF file, or for maximum tonal range, a 16-bit TIFF file and transfer it to your PC. The EOS 10D has a solid look and feel that suits demanding outdoor use and is just the right weight (790 grams) for stable, easy handling.

Its rigid chassis combines engineering plastic with stainless steel and is covered by strong, lightweight magnesium alloy panels on the top, front and rear. Controls are ergonomically shaped and positioned to sustain the EOS tradition of excellent holding comfort and sure-fire operation.

The bulbous grip and rubber skin further contribute to excellent holding comfort, and a clack satin finish heightens the look of elite quality. White Balance and WB BracketingThe EOS 10D enables accurate overall color balance in most lighting conditions through a number of white balance (WB) options. One auto white balance mode and five preset white balance modes provide optimum settings for commonly encountered shooting situations. Precise dialing-in of color temperature in Kelvin values is also possible, with settings selectable from 2800K to 10000K in 100K increments. White balance bracketing lets you capture three JPEG images (normal, reddish, bluish) with one shot, and at the same exposure level, with white balance shifted in ±3 stops in whole-stop increments.Auto and Manual ISO SpeedsWhen shooting in a Basic Zone mode (Full Auto, Landscape, Close-up, Night Portriat, or Flash-off), ISO speed is automatically set between 100 and 400 in 1/3-stop increments to suit the shooting conditions.

Users can also choose Portrait mode (ISO 100), Sports mode (ISO 400) or Creative Zone mode, which allows manual setting of ISO speed to 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 or 3200 by way of an ISO speed button on the camera's top panel that has been added for easier operation. When utilizing the built-in flash, ISO speed is automatically set to 100 in backlit conditions or 200 in dark conditions. Processing ParametersBesides the standard processing parameters applied by the camera automatically during image recording, the user can register up to three sets of parameters (contrast, sharpness, color saturation and color tone/balance), with each parameter adjustable to one of five settings via rear LCD monitor menu. The color tone/balance parameter is mainly used to adjust flesh tones for portraits, toward the minus side (redder) or plus side (more yellow). Once parameter sets have been registered by the user, they can be called up on the menu whenever they are desired for particular shooting conditions.Color SpaceThe wide range of selectable processing parameters includes a choice of two professional color spaces: the standard sRGB color space and the expanded Adobe RBG (1998) color space, which is useful when you want to adjust saturation on a computer or print the image out in an RGB environment. Making the selection that best suits your needs is always easy with the Canon EOS 10D. Expanded Zoom Display During PaybackWhile viewing recorded images on the camera's 1.8-inch, high-definition TFT color LCD, you can enter the Enlargement Mode and enlarge them up to 10x in 15 steps for detailed analysis of lighting, composition, camera movement, focusing accuracy, facial expression, etc.

Simple controls (direction button and Quick Control Dial) enable horizontal and vertical scrolling, as well as viewing of the previous or next image stored in the CF card from the same enlarged view. In the maximum reduced view, nine images are displayed simultaneously on the approximately 118000 pixel screen, making them easy to quickly evaluate.SoftwareThe EOS 10D comes bundled with a range of convenient software that can be displayed in any of 12 languages on the TFT menu. The software is compatible with Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP, Mac OS 9.0 - 9.2, 10.1 and 10.2. The following is a sampling of the software in the bundle:File Viewer UtilityYou can 'develop' RAW images, view images and customize camera settings right in the camera using this handy utility. It supports the latest operating systems and comes with software that handles image management, remote camera control, layout printing, image editing and other tasks.RemoteCaptureThis software, along with the supplied interface cable, allows users to remotely operate the camera from a computer.

Zooming, flash mode, image quality and shutter release can all be controlled, whether taking single images, using the timer (2 to 30 seconds in 1-second increments) or using the interval timer (5 seconds to 60 minutes in 1-second increments). Recording of images directly to the computer is also possible.ZoomBrowser EX / ImageBrowser EXThis software allows users to download, upload, view, manage, edit, and convert JPEG and RAW files on their computer. Editing features include cropping, adjustment of contrast and saturation, and alteration of image dimensions and resolution. Output options include Flashpix, JPEG, TIFF and BMP. EF LensesAll Canon lenses in the extensive EF lineup, ranging from ultra-wide-angle to super-telephoto lenses, are fully compatible with the EOS 10D. This popular lens lineup employs advanced optical know-how and micron precision engineering to deliver unprecedented performance that facilitates artistic expression.

Aspherical optics and Flourite elements, for example, are featured in the universally acclaimed L-series lenses. And Canon's landmark Image Stabilization minimizes the effect of camera shake.

Through Canon's EF lenses, photographers can truly maximize the quality and liberating performance of the EOS 10D. Automatic Rotation of Vertical ImagesWhenever you view stored images on the LCD or through video output display, images that were taken with the EOS 10D turned sideways are rotated automatically to the upright position for easier viewing.Shooting ModesThe EOD 10D's convenient shooting modes make it easy to obtain professional results. Simply select the best mode for the shooting situation, set options when available, and let the EOS 10D handle the rest.35-zone Evaluative Metering System/E-TTL Autoflash AlgorithmThe EOS 10D offers wide-ranging control over exposure through its proven Evaluative Metering System, which features maximum aperture TTL metering, 35-zone SPC, three selectable modes and improved overall precision via a new algorithm. The evaluative metering mode links to all AF points, metering the entire image area, while the center-weighted average metering mode lets photographers apply their own compensation. The partial central metering mode uses 13.5% of the central area an cannot be linked to the AF point. To obtain more stable flash exposures, the EOS 10D's algorithm for calculating the main flash output is based on the algorithm used by the EOS-1v and EOS-1D/1Ds.

Since a wide area of the entire image is metered for flash, the flash exposure remains stable even if the framing is slightly changed. Meter readings from highly reflective surfaces are ignored or the weighting is reduced so that it will not adversely affect the exposure of the subject.Custom Functions17 Custom Functions with 61 settings provide a method of tailoring certain features and controls to meet your needs.

Many of these functions are similar to those in professional EOS film cameras, while others allow control of purely digital features.
